Must Have mods for FALLOUT 3

Let’s face it, Fallout 3 in it’s vanilla form is pretty damn boring. In fact if it wasn’t for the modding community and the PC version Fallout 3 would have hit a 10 on the ‘sucks meter’.
With that in mind here is a list of mods for FO3 that really help save the day bringing Fallout 3 closer to what it should have been when Bethesda released it.

  • Enclave Commander – [ link ]
    This mod is so much fun, I never get tired of calling in my own personal vertibird to fly around in.
  • Sharing and Caring Companions – [ link ]

  • Free Play after Main Quest Completion – [ link ]
    I never understood why Bethesda decided to kill you after the main quest, pretty dumb. If you buy the expansions which resurrect you from the dead you won’t need this.
  • ROBCO Certified – [ link ]
    This is a lot of fun for those that like to play with robots.
  • Bittercup Companion – [ link ]
    Hey who doesn’t want some cute little goth girl following you around? Heheheh.
  • Fawkes War Machine – [ link ]
    Changes the appearance of your super mutant buddy from lame ass wimp  to Mr. BaddAss!
  • Followers Relax – [ link ]
    Tired of your followers standing around like a bunch of cardboard cutouts? Now they wander around and do stuff without you!
  • Taking out the Trash – [ link ]
    Considering most paper exposed to sun, weather, and the elements degrades pretty damn fast, it’s amazing to me that Bethesda thought there would be such a ridiculous amount of trash all over the place 200 years later! Get rid of that crap!
  • Galaxy News Radio – [ link ]
    Tired of the same old buggy announcer and repetitive songs? Try this out!
  • Clean Potomac – [  link ]
    After the main quest is over install this to get a cleaner Potomac River.
  • Ghouls Cohabitate – [  link ]
    I like ambiguous decisions in games where there is no real right or wrong answer, however there are consequences to what people choose to do.  The game does not fully address the consequences and only gives you two outcomes; the ghouls are stuck outside with no real cost to you since you chose not to help them, or you do help them and the residents are slaughtered without any repercussions for the ghouls.  Needless to say neither of these options is appealing or realistic.
    This mod allows you to actually complete the quest without everyone dying.
  • No Tracers – [ link ]
    It’s pretty stupid to have every friggin’ bullet in the game be a tracer. Yawn.
  • Sensible Dismemberment – [ link ]
    Having body parts fly off from one bullet is kind of amusing once or twice, after that it get’s real old.
  • VATS Normal Weapon Degradation – [ link ]
    Weapons wear out wayyy too fast in this game. This helps a little.
  • Max Level 99 – [ link ]
    Raises your level cap.
  • Raider Gore Deleted – [ link ]
    Tired of disease ridden stinking corpses everywhere you go? Get that stench out of here!
  • Auto Aim Fix – [ link ]
    The ballistics/targeting in this game barely even comes close to anything resembling real world physics and bullet trajectory.  This helps for those who want to have a little more realism.
  • CONELRAD 640-1240 – [ link ]
    Another great mod that really improves the retro feel of the game. That is something the developers should have worked a lot harder at.
  • I’ll Touch What I Want! – [ link ]
    The first few times an NPC yells at you for kicking a tin can as you walk along is amusing. Once that wears off use this mod.
  • Point Lookout No Travel Time – [ link ]
    The travel time cost in the game going from D.C. to Point Lookout is silly. It does not take a month to go from D.C. to Maryland.
  • FELLOUT – [ link ]
    Adds rain and weather effects. Not sure if I feel it is really a ‘must have’ but it is good.
  • No Car Explosions – [ link ]
    Again another fix for an in game experience that is only amusing once or twice.
  • Megaton XMAS – [ link ]
    Nicely done mod that adds a little festive cheer to post-apocalyptia.
  • BOS D.C. Patrols – [ link ]
    Now that the Enclave has been donkey punched, the BOS is reclaiming it’s turf.
  • Prostitution – [ link ]
    Ahhh now for some fun, makes listening to Bittercup worth the effort heheh. If you find the natural act of sex (ok <grin> it’s a little kinky) too offensive……. and yet you play a game where the world has been blown to shit with people butchering and killing one another, you are an idiot.
  • Tailor Maid – [ link ]
    This is how the developers definitely should have done wearable items, makes customizing your look a whole lot more fun. Good for preventing every damn NPC from looking alike as well.
  • Streetlights – [ link ] & a second [ link ]
    It’s not very realistic to have any working streetlights, but it’s freakin’ cool. You could justify it by saying people are slowly rebuilding and getting things repaired.  Mehhh.. whatever <shrugs>, it’s still a neat mod to add in. One mod does downtown D.C. only and the other expands it to some of the outer areas as well.

    Another Christmas season add on.
