I love gadgets and new technology. I like saving money and reducing waste. But I loathe being forced into something just because someone else thinks it is a good idea without long term research and which are ultimately a knee jerk overreaction to an issue… such as the case with incandescent light bulbs.
I am so glad I found someone is still making long life heavy duty incandescent lights. The best part about it is they are made right here in the U.S. of A. Which helps keep our citizens employed and puts our money back into our own economy instead of giving it away to overseas nations who sell us low grade junk, and to top it off they often don’t even like our nation.
Makes me feel good to have a choice about things. Head over to newcandescent.com and get yourself some decent light for a change.
Humans tend to distill the world around them into simplistic black and white definitions. But Leonard Nimoy was more than just the tv character of Spock, he was a human being with all the multilayered complexities that it brings with it . He was not just an actor or director he was also an artist, a photographer, a poet, a father, a grandfather, a colleague, a friend to those who knew him, and an amazing positive influence in the world. He was the kind of person that fans dreamed of meeting someday, I can only envy those who had that privilege.
Friends and colleagues all had much to say about his passing:
“I loved him like a brother. We will all miss his humor, his talent, and his capacity to love.” – William Shatner
“Today, the world lost a great man, and I lost a great friend. We return you now to the stars, Leonard. You taught us to ‘Live Long And Prosper,’ and you indeed did, friend. I shall miss you in so many, many ways.” – George Takei
“RIP to the best First Officer.” – Johnathan Frakes
“My heart is broken. I love you profoundly my dear friend. And I will miss you everyday. May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest” – Zachary Quinto
I liked this one in particular because it is exactly how I feel.
“I have been, and always shall be, your fan. Thank you.” – Nathan Fillion
I don’t really know what else to say, or how to express the feelings of loss and grief. I can go on and on with the quotes searching for the words that mirror my own feelings, but of all the quotes I read the best were Nimoy’s own, from his last message on twitter.
“A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP” – Leonard Nimoy 2/23/2015
I wasn’t lucky enough to hear about Star Citizen when the funding campaign initially launched and get a limited run citizenship card like other early backers did. Still I wanted one because it’s neat, so I made my own version with the Gimp staying relatively true to the layout of the real ones issued. Nothing earth shattering in and of itself but I think the game is going to be fantastic and I just think it’d be cool to have one.
All I can say is that if I was there it would have scared the hell out of me seeing it and having my window blown out from the shock wave. Frightening stuff!
Aaagh! They’re killing me with this show! Feels like everyone is dying left and right, plus during the after show interviews “The Talking Dead” …the episode director stated that things are going to get worse for the characters! Noooo holy crap how much more can they take?!
Anyway had to get that out of my system, love this show. Looks like we’re in for a rough ride as the rest of this season finishes. Phew!!
Although Star Citizen is still in the early stages of development it’s still frigging amazing. The one small part released so far called Arena Commander is really fun even with all it’s limits… all by itself it still gets me ramped up for what will come later. I mean it has literally been years since I’ve gotten really excited about a game. When I look at the obvious determination the developers have to put out a great game, they make me believe in it and only time will tell if I am right or wrong to have faith in them. So many potentially great titles having fallen by the wayside over the years unfinished and barely remembered, or those games were released as poor shadows of what they could and should have been, generally it would be hard for me to get worked up over any game in development. But I feel like Star Citizen is different.
It’s going to be some time before this game is ready for the general public. However for those of us who grasp the complexity of software development, who don’t have ADD, and who have the patience to understand this is the part of game designing where things don’t always work and plans get changed… can really appreciate getting access to the alpha and beta stages. I love the details and high end graphics, I’m thrilled they are pushing the envelope of the pc platform and demanding more from the hardware. It’s fun to watch the whole process grow and even to some small degree have some influence over where the game will eventually end up thanks to a game developer that takes into account player feedback during the design process. Truly amazing.
One reason this game get’s me going is I’ve always been strictly a hardcore pc gamer that never bought into the console gaming racket. The games written for them are by nature simplistic being designed for outdated hardware and the lack of any real depth due to design constraints gets boring dam fast for people like me. In general the gaming landscape has been a bleak one for so long that I was starting to feel that my passion for the hobby was reaching it’s end, simply dying out after all these years with no fuel for the fire. But seeing what Star Citizen already has to offer so far and it’s future potential, I feel there might be a little spark left in me. Just knowing Star Citizen is out there on the horizon, helps me get through some really crappy days in the everyday mundane world.
I can’t begin to tell you how much I’ve been enjoying the latest expansion for SWTOR. Lots of changes to character classes and some new storyline that offers a solo instead of being locked into group play! YES! I like it! I like it a lot!
It’s just so nice to be able to enjoy the missions that usually lock out lone wolves. By adding a solo mode and loaning you a combat android to make up for not having other players has made running these missions a blast!
If you have not logged in already to play, what the heck are ya waiting for!!!
